#1 Black Forest/ Wutach Gorge
The Black Forest is easy to reach from anywhere in Germany. The four large protected areas of the Black Forest (Black Forest National Park, Black Forest Central/North Nature Park, Southern Black Forest Nature Park, Black Forest Biosphere Reserve) offer enough space to enjoy the beautiful nature and escape from urban life. If that's not enough, there are also a number of campsites, restaurants, museums with changing exhibitions, nature information centers and wellness areas including thermal baths. For winter holidays, the Black Forest offers more than 100 mountains and peaks for extensive winter sports. If you like hiking, we can also highly recommend the Wutach Gorge there.
#2 Star Park Rhön
If you live in the city, you'll know it: you can't see the stars at night. The reason is the light pollution in the city, which obscures all the stars in the night sky. If you want to enjoy the night sky in all its beauty, then we can recommend the Rhön Star Park. Rhön is sparsely populated, which makes it possible to view the starry sky almost completely. You can see stars there that have not been seen in the night sky in many other regions for a long time. This is a great experience, especially for photographers and astronomy enthusiasts. In addition, you can take part in a night picnic, an astronomical tour or one of many other activities that the star park offers. Of course, you can also simply log into your HANG swing and relax extremely comfortably while gazing at the stars.
The low light pollution in Rhön also helps animals and plants, making Rhön one of the last retreats for many species.
In addition to the clear night sky, Rhön also has an exciting history as a border town during the Cold War. You can also follow in the footsteps of the Celts there. The Celts left a lot of their culture in Rhön, so you can discover a lot in museums, changing exhibitions, special hiking trails and other activities.
#3 Blautopf on the Swabian Alb
The Blau has its source near Blaubeuren in the Swabian Jura. It has a very intense blue color and offers its visitors a beautiful play of light. For us a great spot for a picnic on the TIRE!
After you have relaxed a bit there, you can have a look at the historic old town of Blaubeuren and then go hiking in the Swabian Alb. Sounds like a perfect weekend trip, doesn't it?
#4 The Rakotz Bridge in Saxony
The Rakotzbrücke has the funniest name on our list, but it's definitely worth a visit nonetheless - or maybe because of that. It spans the Rakotzsee in Saxony at a small place called Kromlau and together with its reflection in the water forms a very beautiful circle. This makes it a popular motif, especially among photographers. The place is at its best in autumn: when the area is covered with colorful foliage and it's a bit foggy, the bridge becomes a fairytale scene. The Rakotzbrücke is also a great destination in summer: that's when you can see the reflection best. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to enter the bridge, as it is now a listed building - but the visit is still worth it! In addition to visiting the bridge, there is a tour around the lake and a visit to the surrounding towns. In combination with a trip to Saxon Switzerland along the Polish border, this is a perfect short trip in Saxony.
